An f/4 mak-newt? Now you're talking! Is their coma in such a design? Hard to say, but I don't think so. My widest angle EP (that will fit) is an old war surplus Erfle, which obviously isn't optimum. It does have distortions at the edges of the FOV. Unfortunately, the scope maker created a sort of u...

Hey, I said SCT's, not your precious Vega Mak-Cass!
My precious Vega is a MakNewt, and at f/4, would be a good candidate for an alt/az mount. It certainly doesn't need a finder.

I wonder why we don't see large SCT's on heavy duty alt/az mounts- sort of a grab and go on steroids. Or maybe even a variation of the dob mount. A lot of aperture in a small transportable package. Seems like it would make sense... Sheesh! I thought this place was going to be different from ...

I'm leaning more and more towards the idea of getting a Powermate. I like my 2" Parks barlow, but it's too long to use with the paracorr, and I'm too lazy to remove it every time I want to barlow. I finally ponied up for a powermate. Nice piece. I can't for the life of me figure out why anyo...

 Army field engineers tend to carry something a little more powerful than a handgun. No, I mean the citizens there. Let's make them Americans. McDonalds and handguns. Most folks in that part of the world can't even afford the price of a bullet, let alone a handgun. But, if they had the opportu...

That's a great attitude, John. America is half full of bitter and fearful ignoramuses, who want to build a border fence to keep immigrants out. Their wealthier neighbors live in gated communities and shop in stores that aren't open to the unwashed masses. Neither Joe Six-Pack nor G. Barclay Corbus ...

While I'm on the subject (musically speaking): The tune of "The Streets of Laredo" is an arrangement of the tune from an old Irish song called "The Bard of Armagh". "Garryowen", a traditional drinking song from Limerick, became the march of the Fighting 69th, the 7th US Cavalry and later of the US ...

You know how I found out W-M was straying from the "Made in America" image?
