Yeah, it's a Solarmax 60. Can't wait to get it out. Waiting on Orion to send the tripod so I brought my own today and will get first (bright) light

It's truly a beautiful piece of gear. I'm really impressed with the build quality.

Have you ever used the PST? That's the only H-alpha I've ever used and I'm curious to know how they compare.

I looked through a PST once and the view was great. But I don't have any experience with them beyond that one view.

I set it up yesterday morning and took a quick look but it wasn't very impressive. I think because the sun was too low in the sky. Will try again tomorrow.

I had that similar reaction to the PST the first time. "Really, just a little red ball?!?" Then I used it more and began to appreciate what I was looking at. The club I used to belong to had one and I would borrow it on and off over a course of a few years. I sometimes have a hankering to build a mini binoscope out of a pair of PSTs. But I understand the Solarmax should be in a different league. Give it some more views and get back to us once you put it through the paces!

Sweet! Love those. I've come across a couple over the years and they are wicked cool. Can't wait to hear the first light report!

Well, I had to send the Solarmax back as it wasn't reaching focus no matter what we did. They're on back order so they'll be shipping us a new one when they come back in. Really disappointed as the build quality was great but there was definitely something wrong with that particular unit. Tried other eyepieces, diagonals etc as well as every position on the helical focuser and nothing would work.

That's a bummer. I hate it when that happens. Hopefully the new one will arrive soon.

Sounds like crap. Wonder if you need an OCA with a standard diagonal. Or a short FL diagonal.

Yeah, I wouldn't think so but that's possible. It should reach focus out of the box for that much money. I guess when the new one comes, I'll do a bit more fiddling if it has the same issue. Can't believe they'd make them like that though...
