Ordered this yesterday. Couldn’t pass it up at that price. Will let you know what it’s like. I’d imagine it’ll have done CA but should be fine for general observing of dolphins, whales etc.

Hey, pretty good deal regardless of price! What size is your Nikon? 65mm?

Yes, it’s 65mm. I’m sure the Wollensock will be brighter but have a lot more CA. Hard to go wrong at that price though. It’s the same one as the Konus version and while that brand is cheap it’s not terrible. Still have some old Konus 20x80 binos that work great. Well, at least when I keep them aligned...

Yeah, sometimes I find the less expensive stuff fun to use simply because it reminds me of when I started. I still don't have a spotter, but definitely plan to get one some day.
By the way, I meant to say "good deal regardless of CA" in that previous post. Blame it on fatigue.

Haha yeah, it’s true- even when you can afford Televue, it’s fun to use a 1rpd! Always great to get an overachieving optic, even if it’s not nearly as good as the premium unit. I love me a bargain!

It’s supposed to arrive Thursday so I’ll definitely get some testing in.

It even comes with a tabletop tripod. Which I’m sure is of dubious quality.

Got to try it out pretty extensively the other day. Not a bad spotting scope. Decent color correction, all things considered. Bright images and a nice snap to focus even at 60x. The included zoom eyepiece (which doesn’t appear to be removable) is pretty good. Appears to be about 40 degrees afov at 20x and quite a bit wider at 60x. So not overly wide but few aberrations to speak of. In fact, I was so impressed with this spotter that I ordered 15 more for work. Except for work I got the 60mm version as it will fit better for what we need it for. Hopefully the 60 is as good as the 80! These all look to be made in the same factory as the Konus version and they are simply rebranded.

Oh, and much as I suspected, the tripod is really bad. It’s nice they include one but it’s nearly unusable with this large, heavy spotter. It may work better with the fifteen 60mm spotters I ordered. However,I’ll likely order a bunch of Orion Versa-Go alt/az mounts for the additional spotters. That mount worked great with the 80mm.

Nice to hear it's actually decent. If I'm a betting man, the 60mm will be even sharper and even better corrected for CA.

Thanks Jason- yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too. Maybe not as bright but I think they’ll work pretty well for the basic spotting we do on our tours.

Oh yeah, 60mm is plenty for daytime use. I'm sure they will be used and enjoyed.

Got all 15 of the spotters and they’re pretty good. Not as much “snap to focus” as my Nikon but otherwise not far off optically.
