Yeah, I can't say for sure if I knew what the official status was. But I agree it seems like we've heard about neutrinos enough times in the past to assume it to be true. Good article, though. It specified a few details I wasn't aware of, like the relation of the CNO cycle. Thanks for posting!

The article title is inaccurate.

From the abstract I could access what they did is confirm the neutrino count produced by CNO fusion in our star. Effectively they were sorting the many daily neutrino detections out which is far more than the neutrinos produced by CNO fusion in the Sun alone.

You are correct in your memory, the first neutrino observatory began functioning in the early 1980s. Neutrinos were detected for the first time in the 1950s from nuclear reactors. So the existence of neutrinos is long confirmed. Its their varieties and overeall sources detected that are still in question.
