For the dob owners :

What do you use to smoothen the movements on your bearings?

Has anyone used teflonspray? Or is this a bad idea...

I use turtle wax but i am conviced there must be better products.

I want my obsession as smooth as i can get it. It moves good now but i want still it better

I've used Teflon spray many times for alt hubs. It works great. I like the type used on bicycle chains, as it's inexpensive and readily available. The only problem is that the Teflon makes the motions so smooth that there isn't enough friction to balance heavy eyepieces. So I've just gotten used to stiff motions to avoid the balancing act. :)

So it might work then. Is there a change some dirt will stick to the teflon spray?

As for balancing i think i will not have a problem. The OBsession is well balanced. Without eyepiece it tends to go up, and i use only one heavy one , the pan 35, all the rest are 1.25 eyepieces...

However, i did find some Armor All over here, together with wax it does a pretty good job too...

For the azimuth i use now a central teflon pad and a piece of cardboard. Boy, works like a charm...
It worke allready good but now it works even better! And that is important if one uses high magnifications...

I don't think dirt will be a problem. If it is, just wipe it off- the teflon should still be there after a couple of wipes. :)
