...and I had the time and freedom to observe! I used Dave's event list for the month stay on track (thanks Dave). I don't have an SQM, so I just use subjective measurements, I'd say transparency was easily 4/6. Took out the 10" and did all my observing at a super low 27x. Grabbed dozens of OCs, and then threw in the Orion Ultrablock filter once my eyes were safely dilated and "purpled". Swung over to the Helix, was an excellent view. Then finished with the Veil...superb! Great night.

Nice! Low power observing with larger apertures is the best!

I went out to observe last week and noticed the views weren’t very good. Looked at my mirror and it’s totally oxidized. Coatings don’t last long here in Hawaii! It’s only been about two years since I had it coated.

Wow, that sucks. Time to recoat, I guess. I'm thinking I will need to recoat the 12" mirror soon, partial oxidation, some tiny fungus spots. And since it's a GSO mirror it could probably stand a refigure, too.

I’ll probsbky just send mine to Bob Fies at Aluminum Coatings in California. He only charges like $50 to do a 16” mirror. Shipping is still expensive but we don’t gave any local recoaters.
