Yup. We get punched in the nads several days ago with a blizzard that dumps about 16" of snow, and deal with frigid temps for over a week. Then, like a switch was flipped, yesterday was 60ºF! CSC read zero clouds and 4/5 transparency, so I took the 12" dob out for some playtime. Skies were great! Seeing was in the toilet, but I wasn't interested in high power viewing so I didn't much care. Star colors were dramatic, with plenty of orange, yellow, white, blue, greenish, and the occasional red. When scanning the Beehive, in fact, I saw yellows and oranges I never really noticed before. Among the numerous candy that one would expect, I hit two new targets, N2129 open cluster, and N2392 planetary neb, both in Gemini. 2392 was particularly interesting, appearing like a slightly defocused magnitude 8 star. In fact, it paired nicely with the similarly colored bluish star nearby. Additionally, there was a small blue/yellow double within a couple degrees that looked like a lesser version of Alberio. And all this was done in a long sleeve shirt...meaning NO JACKET!

Holy moly! Looks like the CSC is trying for a repeat performance tonight! I can't believe I have two days off from school, during moonless skies, and a rockin' CSC...hot dog!

Wow, that sounds like a nice session. I thought the mainland was being pounded non-stop.

Thanks, Erik, yeah it was a very good night. Just came in from observing (for a second night in a row), but the skies were definitely not quite as good. Maybe 3/5, so still not bad, but not worth spending as much time out there. Besides, the temps have dropped by about 20°F today, so just on the cusp of freezing at the moment. Believe me, though, 35°F at nighttime in February is still comparatively reasonable compared to normal temps this time of year. I grabbed the 15x85 bino for a grab and go session. Spent some time with Cancer and Leo. You know, I forgot how nice M67 was.

Sweet! Take advantage of that! Always nice to revisit old friends.
